The Opera Case

Oriental Opera

Buffalo Bill performed in the Central City Opera House on July 29, 1878. The whip and gauntlets were owned by Buffalo Bill and are on loan from the Buffalo Bill Museum. The Buffalo Bill poster dates from 1879 and is also on loan from the Buffalo Bill Museum. The theatrical backdrop is from the Nevadaville Theatre, Nevadaville, CO and dates from the 1860s. The dress was worn by Elinor Stebbens in "Amelia Goes To The Ball", 1951

This scene is an adaptation of the two Oriental opera perfromed in Central City, "Madam Butterfly" and "The Mikado". The bridge is a stage prop on loan from the Opera Association and the kimono is from the Thomas House Collection of the Gilpin Historical Society.

Opera House Model & Chair

Opera Room

This chair was used in the Central City Opera House through the 1999 season. The Opera House model was made by Frank "Pancho" Gates, a longtime Opera Association designer.

This is the Opera display room. The signatures displayed on the upper half of the walls are autographs of actors and entertainers who frequented the Glory Hole Saloon and signed their names on the walls. When the Glory Hole was converted into a casino, the signatures were saved and presented to the Museum in 1999.
