James Prochaska, P.E.
Executive Director, Gilpin Historical Society & Museums

Jim has held this position since 1997. Prior to accepting this position, he was the Executive Director of the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum in Golden, CO and an engineering manager for USWEST Communications in Denver for 26 years.

His background is in Architecture and and Construction Management from Iowa State University. Jim lives in Denver.

Executive Director Announces Retirement

The Gilpin Historical Society announces the retirement of Executive Director, James Prochaska, at the end of the 2009 season. He has decided to retire from this position after serving 13 years at the Society’s Director and Museum Curator. He looks forward to discovering a third career opportunity.

Andrea (Andy) Thomas, our faithful intern for the past year, has accepted the position of Curator of the Bent County Heritage Center in Las Animas, CO. She started her new job effective March 1, 2009.
